the first among us

he is the first among us
the pride of his family
he introduced me to sci-fi, donkey kong, rock & roll music
and even took the time to teach me about electricity.

i've always been fond of the laughter we share
with a shine in his eyes and now too on his head!

seriously though, he is just awesome.
and though i'm a day late in posting this
he will always be early!

happy birthday wally!!!
like uncle like nephew
baldies unite!!!

the man of the hour

at 11pm...ish (i think) on this day way way
...way back many years
this guy was born
they called him kenny
certain he was made for great things
and he was...
he is my brother after all!

we used to play with cars and writing essays about mars
(i think i actually wrote about pluto)
he taught me to drive standard and i managed not to wreck his car
he ensured i watched movies and did something other than homework
and paved the way for piercings, although i don't know if he still has any.
he welcomes me home, always with a warm "dad style" embrace
and if i didn't have him, something would feel out of place.
i get to see him this summer, along with the clan,
i will show him my home here, at least that's the plan.

picture time!!!
that is likely either tim horton's or starbucks coffee...
I have a 'bucks around the corner here, so no need to worry...
mr family man, with a family that makes great faces...
mr. music of our crew...good thing he didn't stop at the clarinet.
he is many things, sometimes even a road.
and shares the past with the future...even when it sounds a little goofy
thirty some odd cheers for kenny!!!

saturday

it has been awhile since i have been to the ocean,
an odd thing because i live right on it.
so i got together with a friend
who loves the outdoors as much as i do.
yummy lunch as we gazed over the beach,
this particular dish is called "the ben butler" from the bistro
my friend Frances,
i feel safe with a camera in her hands,
she knows how to use it well :)some of the fun things we found throughout our day
a labyrinth that weathers the stormswho ever said there is no art in nature...
i believe our next outing will involve sushi...

snap...

how could i forget to share such important Taiwan photos...

The guy you see, I call him brother...
and rightly so, for he is one of three.
we were bored one day,
and decided to play,
with photobooth, faces and,
uh i can't think of something good to rhyme with three...

...enjoy!

the box in your hands...

it is precious,
a value which surpasses gold

it is a treasure,
unlike anything that could ever be sold

it is friendship,
which, when guarded by kings
brings life to the darkness
and to its bearers, wings

space

don't fear the emptiness,
it is space to breathe
to move
be unobserved.

don't fear the silence,
it is space to listen
and hear your heart turn.

don't fear the darkness,
it is space to yield
and watch beauty emerge.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love this city?

deep tissue

prayer is like deep tissue massage,
you have to press in and work the muscle
until the knots give way.

life

in death there is hope
in darkness, a dream

surrender, emptiness, freedom

life in all its fullness
starts as but a seed

i want you

i want you to dream
i want you to breathe
i want you to see

hugs and kisses

my last day

taipei is a beautiful city
i loved it almost as soon as i walked out of my hotel room
lovely gardens, a very walkable downtown,
and a clearly called out desire for peace.
we wandered into this beautiful area that has a monument to
Chiang Kai-Shek
a former president of the Republic of China
the buildings were bigoh so very BIG,
leanne is in front of the stairs to the rightthis picture cracked me up,
perhaps it was something written on his cheeks,
but i couldn't figure out how this kid
made it onto a peace muraljust before a delicious japanese italian dinner of pasta (???)
i witnessed my last sunset of taiwanthe tallest building in taiwan.
i would say in the world,
but i think that title is about to be taken away.and finally the monument to the founder of the Replublic of China
Dr. Sun Yat-sen
we ended the day at the local Cold Stone Creamery
and then i was hauled off to the airport the next morning
where i was fortunate enough to score a seat with amazing leg room.

i may follow up with some random shots, but for now...
that's all folks.

hmmm, where should i go next???
